Strawberry Mango Banana Smoothie

This strawberry mango banana smoothie is thick, creamy, and reminiscent of flavors you would expect on a tropical vacation. You will only need 5 ingredients for this frosty sweet smoothie for a grab-and-go breakfast or fruit-filled snack.

why this recipe works

  • tropical flavors– The mango and strawberry really make this a delicious tropical treat. The banana makes it creamy and sweet.
  • ready super fast– You will have this ready to go in under a few minutes.
  • thick and creamy– You are going to need a spoon to get this smoothie out of the blender that is how this it is. But not too thick you can’t drink it thru a straw.
  • dairy free and gluten-free– This recipe works perfectly for a vegan and gluten-free lifestyle. All of the ingredients are also paleo-friendly.
  • no yogurt! This recipe only uses water or coconut for the base so it makes the perfect thick smoothie without yogurt.

ingredients for this strawberry mango smoothie

  • frozen banana– The frozen banana will make this super creamy. Bananas are rich in nutrients that support overall health and are great for the gut. They boost your antioxidant intake and thanks to the fiber help you feel fuller longer.
  • frozen strawberries– Frozen strawberries are a great ingredient because you typically have access to high-quality strawberries when it is not peak season. Strawberries are great for heart health, and anti-cancer thanks to the antioxidants. You will also get a boost of vitamin C. You will get over half of your daily recommended intake of Vitamin C in from the strawberries alone.
  • frozen mango– I love the convenience of frozen mango. Mostly because I hate peeling and chopping a fresh mango…so it is great to have the burst of flavor but in a convenient way. Mangos are super high in magnesium and potassium, both support muscle health.
  • water or coconut water– I love water for this smoothie. But if you want to take the sweetness level up a notch, or just want some added flavors coconut water is a great option. You could also sub in mango or strawberry juice.
  • lime juice– This is one of my secret ingredients for a fresh-tasting smoothie. Adding just a teaspoon of fresh lime really makes the flavor pop. Of course, if you don’t have this ingredient, it shouldn’t stop you from making the smoothie. It’s not a ride-or-die kind of ingredient. Just adds a nice touch.

variations

  • protein powder– I love adding a boost of protein and making it more of a complete meal with protein powder. Protien will help you stay full longer, if you are someone who drinks a smoothie and still is hungry, this might help you. Vanilla protein or even unflavored collagen are excellent choices.
  • coconut oil– 1 teaspoon of coconut oil is a nice added ingredient for fats to keep you full. Just blend it really well. It will add a texture to the smoothie, but I like it.
  • chia seeds– 1 teaspoon of chia seeds will naturally boost the fiber and the protein in the smoothie. Blend them right in with the rest of the ingredients.

step by step instructions

  1. Add all of your ingredients to the blender in the order listed. I like to slice my frozen banana into several slices to make it easier on my blender and speed up the time. If you do not have a high-power blender I wouldn’t skip this step.

2. Blend: Blend starting on low and ramp up to high. Use a tamper if needed to keep things moving.

Is this strawberry mango banana smoothie good for you?

This smoothie is packed with nutrients and vitamins that support a healthy lifestyle. Fruits are a healthy option for snacks and adding fiber to your diet. With the variety of fruit in this smoothie and the ability to use frozen fruit, you can have a healthy smoothie any time of the year.

I don’t have a high-power blender, can I still make this?

You can still make this smoothie without a high-power blender but it will take a few minutes longer. You should also be sure to cut your fruit up into slices or smaller chunks if possible. You will be stopping the blender to push the ingredients down towards the blades more often. If things get super frustrating (been there) add water but only 1 tablespoon at a time.

How do I make this super thick?

To make this super thick and creamy Strawberry Mango Banana Smoothie be sure to use frozen fruit. The other trick is not to add more water than the recipe specifies.

Can I make this into a smoothie bowl?

You can turn this smoothie into a smoothie bowl as is or use slightly less water. Just use a bowl instead of a glass and voila you have a smoothie bowl. Because this smoothie is so thick it is a perfect one to turn into a bowl when you feel like adding toppings and taking your time to eat it!

How many carbs are in this smoothie?

This smoothie, without the protein powder calculated in, has approximately 54 grams of carbs when made with coconut water. You can cut back on the carbs by using just water.

tips for making banana strawberry mango smoothie

  • High power blender– You can make this smoothie without one but it’s going to take a little bit more time and patience. If you don’t have a high-power blender you will need to stop and push the ingredients down the blender while it is off.
  • Tamper or push down– No matter what blender you have, this mango strawberry banana smoothie recipe is designed to be thick. To help your blender out use the tamper it came with or stop the blender and push the ingredients towards the blades.
  • Use frozen fruit– Be sure to use frozen fruit. If you have fresh fruit you want to use, prepare it ahead of time by chopping and freezing first.
  • Rripe banana- Using a ripe banana will ensure you have a nice sweet smoothie.
  • Don’t add more water– If your blender isn’t blending adding more water isn’t the solution. It will just water down the flavors. Just be patient. I like to keep the speed of my blender on a lower speed (around 2-3) until the very end and then I put it on high for the final 15 seconds or so.
