Pineapple Apple Cider Vinegar Shot on white surface with bottle behind it.

This apple cider morning drink has so many health benefits that it is silly not to at least try adding it to your morning routine. It is full of ingredients that help reduce inflammation in the body. And I promise, you want to do all you can to reduce inflammation.

Inflammation causes many problems within our bodies and is the root cause of many chronic conditions. I don’t know about you, but I want to add whatever I can to my diet that will reduce inflammation naturally and deliciously.

And guess what? This drink does in fact taste delicious. My experience with this drink is that the first week there is a little burning that occurs (just like a real shot of alcohol).

But now, several weeks after drinking apple cider vinegar every morning, I can’t even tell there is apple cider vinegar in the shot. I also can’t wait to drink it every morning because it is like a tropical summer treat.

Food is medicine

This post is a long one! I wanted to offer as much information as possible for those of you looking to learn about the benefits of these ingredients. It is really important to learn that food is much more than food. Food is medicine and this post will help show you why.

Ingredients for this pineapple juice and apple cider vinegar morning shot

  • Apple cider vinegar- a high-quality kind with the mother like this
  • Pineapple juice (cold pressed if you can find it, not from concentrate)
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Honey
  • Turmeric
ACV drink being poured.

Benefits of apple cider vinegar

Let’s start with the star of the show, apple cider vinegar. Drinking apple cider vinegar (ACV) offers huge health benefits to our bodies thanks to the acetic acid it contains. ACV is made up of about 5% acetic acid which is made through the fermentation process.

A few of the claimed benefits of taking apple cider vinegar include:

  • Insulin sensitivity reduction (study found here)
  • Decrease in cholesterol in particular LDL and triglycerides
  • Alleviate reflux symptoms
  • Weight loss in particular fat loss and fat distribution (study found here)
  • Improved circulation
  • Antibacterial properties (topically) (study found here)

Although there are still studies being done to clarify and confirm the benefits of ACV there are many success stories for using ACV for the above methods.

ACV can have an impact on potassium levels if taken in excess. Pay attention especially if you have renal (kidney) problems, or take medication that affects potassium levels such as diuretics and some anti-depressants.

Because ACV can affect your blood sugar level pay strict attention to your blood sugar levels when beginning ACV if you are a diabetic.

Benefits of lime juice

This might be obvious but just like oranges, limes are high in vitamin C. Limes offer anti-inflammatory benefits. Limes also have anti-diabetic and cancer-fighting abilities due to the flavonoids found in limes.

Like most fruit, limes contain antioxidants. Antioxidants act like magnets and rid the body of free radicals that can cause damage such as cancer.

Benefits of turmeric

Oh boy you are going to love what turmeric can do for you. Turmeric, a plant related to ginger, contains curcumin. Curcumin is the ingredient responsible for two major health actions- antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. So what does that mean for you?

This means curcumin (turmeric) can have profound effects on any chronic condition that is caused by inflammation.

Here a just a few disease processes that have been shown to benefit from curcumin found in turmeric:

Turmeric has been used around the world for holistic and Ayurvedic medicine for a very long time and is considered safe to take. It is also worth it to mention that curcumin doesn’t absorb well when ingested. To gain the most benefit from taking curcumin, taking it alongside some black pepper will increase its absorption.

Potential Therapeutic Effects of Curcumin, the Anti-inflammatory Agent, Against Neurodegenerative, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Metabolic, Autoimmune and Neoplastic Diseases

Benefits of honey

I believe people forget how awesome honey is for you simply because it is considered a ‘sugar’. And we all know sugar gets a really bad rap these days.

But there is a huge difference between table sugar and honey.

Table sugar has ZERO nutritional benefits.

But honey? Honey has the ability to heal skin problems, kill h-pylori (a bacteria found in the stomach known to cause ulcers and reflux), help with allergies, aid in sports performance and so much more. Find out more information on honey here and here.

Benefits of pineapple juice

Pineapple, like lime juice, is high in vitamin C. Vitamin C helps support our immune system and lowers the risk of heart disease.

Pineapples also contain bromelain. Bromelain has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used by many for conditions such as arthritis, sports-related injuries. Bromelain also shows potential as a cancer-fighting agent in many studies. Learn more here.

Should it be organic?

Budget is always at the forefront of when we can or can’t buy organic food. However, if you decide to make this drink I would strongly encourage you to invest in high-quality organic apple cider vinegar. Studies show that organic apple cider vinegar has a greater amount and diversity of bacteria compared to conventional ACV.

I hope you feel motivated to try adding an apple cider vinegar morning shot to your routine. It is an easy and delicious way to add natural ingredients that fight inflammation and free radicals.

Cheers friends! And don’t forget to stop back by after you try it and let me know what you think!

Ingredients

  • 20 ounces Pineapple Juice Try to use/find 100% juice, not from concentrate. Cold pressed is even better.
  • 5 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, with the mother organic if you can
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 lime juice of one lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric see notes

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a large jar and shake vigorously until well combined. Store in refrigerator up to 5 days. Separation is normal just shake before serving.
  • When ready to serve pour 4.5 oz into a small glass and sip. Serve cold or over ice.

Notes

  • One question I get asked often is, “should I add black pepper to help with the absorption of turmeric?”. There is research that shows black pepper aids in absorption, and that is a call you will need to make for your body. I do not have an amount for you to add.
