The Hidden Veggie One (Banana Orange Celery Smoothie)

Give me a sweet smoothie, but make it loaded with veggies. This Banana Orange Celery Smoothie is made with fresh ingredients, has a creamy texture, and will seriously make you feel like you have your life together when you drink it.

There is something cathartic that happens when you make this smoothie. It’s almost like the simple act of throwing in all these fresh fruits and veggies helps you align with your healthiest, best self. We are talking whole fresh navel oranges, spinach, and more. That means this smoothie is packed with Vitamin C and other healthy antioxidants to keep you healthy and happy.

Why this recipe is the best

  • It is sweet but packed with veggies. 95% of the veggie smoothies out there, really aren’t that delicious. Tolerable, yes…delicious, no. This is a smoothie you will want to make again and again
  • No additional sweetener added. Not even natural sweeteners like maple syrup are needed for this health boost of a smoothie. It gets its natural sweetness from fruits.
  • The veggies are hidden (aka it’s not green). This makes it perfect for those of you who hate green smoothies, those of you trying to trick your loved ones into eating more veggies, or you just love a beautiful purple smoothie.
  • Perfect any time of the day. Make it for breakfast, for a midday nutritious snack or even a treat before bedtime.

What you need to make this veggie-packed smoothie

Only simple ingredients are needed for this nutritious drink. Plus with the amount of fresh ingredients included, you will have met your daily dietary fiber goals in no time. Bonusss!

  • Coconut Milk: I like coconut milk for this smoothie. It keeps things non-dairy/ vegan and easy on the gut. But you can substitute your choice of milk (dairy or non-dairy). Ideas include almond milk, dairy milk, or even oat milk.
  • Cold Water: We add some cold water just for a larger volume of liquid without using a lot of milk, which I think really ruins the flavor of a smoothie. If you would like to opt for more milk instead of using water, that works too.
  • Frozen Ripe Banana– Frozen and Ripe are two essential things here. A frozen banana will give you a nice creamy texture. It being ripe will make sure your smoothie is nice and sweet without any added sugars.
  • Baby Spinach Leaves– Getting your greens in (and they are completely hidden when the smoothie is blended) with some fresh spinach leaves here.
  • Celery StalkCelery in a smoothie is super tasty. Plus celery is a good source of vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, folate, potassium, and calcium.
  • Frozen Blueberries– We have a mix of fresh and frozen ingredients in this smoothie to make sure it is the best texture it can be. Frozen blueberries will make it a creamy texture, give it a boost of natural sweetness, hide the veggies and they are packed full of antioxidants.
  • Fresh Navel Oranges– My favorite ingredient of this smoothie. Whole, FRESH navel oranges. Just peel and pop ’em in the blender.

Step by Step Instructions for this Banana Celery Orange Smoothie

It’s not very many steps, but you are still welcome to check in with these photos to make sure you got the right thing going on with your recipe.

Step 1: Add all of your ingredients into a blender in the order listed. A high-speed blender is best but if you don’t have one just chop your ingredients up smaller.

Step 2: Blend on high until smooth. Enjoy right away. This won’t keep well after blending.

Do’s and Don’ts of making the perfect smoothie

Do:

  • Add in mix-ins you enjoy in your smoothies. You can add in coconut oil for a fat boost, collagen for a protein boost, or even some turmeric for another antioxidant boost. These make great additions to your smoothie without changing the flavor profile.
  • Swap out ingredients for similar ingredients. Would you rather have coconut water instead of coconut milk? Do it! Play around with the ingredients to find your favorite combo.
  • If you don’t have a high-powered blender chop your frozen stuff up into small chunks. You could also blend your spinach first with just the milk, then add in the rest of the ingredients to blend together. This helps break up the greens with a blender that isn’t like a Vitamix.
  • Serve it in your favorite glass like a fun mason jar.
  • Drink this right away. It is best enjoyed after blending because separation will occur.

Don’t

  • Don’t add in extra liquid if your smoothie isn’t blending. Stop the blender, tamper it down with a tamper or rubber spatula, then blend again. Adding more liquid is not a good idea because it is just going to water down the taste of your smoothie.
  • Don’t add ice cubes. This is going to change the texture and flavor of your smoothie. Be sure to use the suggested frozen fruit to get the perfectly creamy smoothie.
